Connecticut: Meigs & Dana, 1787. A collection of 16 sheets from the New-Haven Gazette covering an assortment of topics such as, political commentary; a translation of the Marquis Chasteleux's (sic) travel commentary on Dr. Franklin, and General Washington (at Hudson's river... near Totohaw Fall) "Brave without temerity; laborious without ambition; generous without prodigality; noble without pride; virtuous without severity..."; Chastellux acted as the principal liaison officer between the French commander in chief Rochambeau and George Washington during the Revolutionary War; the mustering of federal troops on April 23, 1787; interest expressed in joining the Spanish troops in South America by an American officer; cheese making; the Empress of Russia to build canals to unite the Caspian and White Seas, Baltic and Caspian Seas. The New-Haven Gazette started in 1786 and ended before 1790. 16 pages are 8 3/4 x 11 1/2" with rough edges, slt fox spotting, one page clipped, edges slightly ruffled, though very legible.
