Octavo (18cm.); publisher's grey gilt-lettered cloth, grey topstain, decorative endpapers; [2],xi,[12]-570,[4](ads)pp. General light shelf wear, corners bumped, spine a bit toned and gilt dulled, else a Near Very Good and sound copy. Inscribed by the author on front free endpaper verso: "To my dear Cousin Anna, with the Author's love, this freshly-revised edition from an older hand than the first. / Thanksgiving, 1889." Later ownership inscription of a descendant to front flyleaf: "James H. Lowell / from Aunt Lucy Lowell / Chestnut Hill, Christmas, 1934." Revised edition of clergyman Robert Lowell's novel based on his experiences as a missionary in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland. See WRIGHT II 1591 for the first (1858) edition.
