When the Nazi war machine rolled across the Netherlands in 1940 Len Mulholland was a young student at the Merchant Navy College in Amsterdam, and it didn't take long for him and his friends to become involved in the Dutch Resistance. As an apprentice seaman, Len undertook to act as a courier carrying messages for London out of occupied Holland to Neutral Sweden. Eventually wanting to take a more active part in the war, he escaped to England to join the Dutch army. In London, he turned down an invitation from Queen Wilhelmina to be her Aide-de-camp and instead volunteered for service in the field. A short time later as a fully-trained intelligence officer, Mulholland parachuted back into Holland with orders to reorganize the resistance units into fighting forces. Arrested once, he escaped. Picked up a second time, he was sent to Germany where, after escaping again, he tricked the authorities into giving him a work…
