Sobre este artículo

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1931. Clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. Front and rear Dust Jacket flaps are laid-in. Biography of Hideyo Noguchi (1876-1928), Japanese-born bacteriologist of the Rockefeller Institute. Noguchi made important advances in the study of snake venoms, smallpox and yellow-fever vaccines, and the laboratory diagnosis of trachoma. In 1913, he isolated the cause of syphilis and developed a skin test for it. He made major contributions to the understanding of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and infectious jaundice. Dr. Noguchi died in West Africa while investigating the cause of yellow fever. This copy is INSCRIBED by the AUTHOR to Dr. Arthur C. Bachmeyer, who was Superintendent of Cincinnati General Hospital from 1915-1934, and Dean of the Medical School there, 1925 through 1933. Subsequently Bachmeyer became dean and director at the University of Chicago. Dr. Bachmeyer served as president of the American Hospital Association. With Gerhard Hartman, he edited The Hospital in Modern Society (New York, Commonwealth Fund, 1943.) Established by the University of Chicago in his honor is the Arthur C. Bachmeyer Memorial Address, featured annually at the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress on Healthcare Management. It was in Cincinnati that the author met Bachmeyer. Eckstein earned his M. D. degree at the University of Cincinnati and in 1922 joined the faculty there as instructor in physiology. For a fascinating profile of Eckstein, see Kunitz: Twentieth Century Authors, First Supplement, 1955; pp. 298-299. Original black cloth. INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Partial jacket - flaps only. 8vo. 419pp.

Sobre About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
