Sobre este artículo
London: Henry Colburn, 1828. First edition. Leather. Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A candid biography of this British scultor, complete in two volumes bound in contemporary leather. This biography has been described as being 'perhaps the most candid biography ever published in the English language' for its depiction of Nollekens as being a wretched miser.Joseph Nollekens (1737-1823) was a London-based sculptor considered one of the greatest of the late eighteenth century. With King George III as his patron, he produced busts and sculptures of the likes of Laurence Sterne, William Pitt the Younger, Charles James Fox and the King himself.Written by John Thomas Smith (1766-1833), his executor. A first edition of this work. In a half calf binding. Externally a trifle worn, with loss to the leather of the spine as a result of rubbing, in particular to the tails of each volume, as well as to the extremities. Contemporary ownership inscription to the head of the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little spotted to the first and last leaves, but otherwise bright and clean. Good
