Sobre este artículo

Washington DC: The Smithsonian Institution, 1925. First Trade Edition. Complete in five volumes. Large 4to. 400 beautiful color-printed plates, with tissue guards and descriptions. In the bindings of the famous Lindley Library, the Royal Horticultural Society's research library, with their small bookplate (cancelled) in each volume. Contemporary three- quarter brown morocco, raised bands, marbled endpapers; top edges gilt; gilt lettering on spines. A uniformly very good to near fine set (some rubbing to covers; minor wear to extremities; minor dampstain to edges near spine head of each volume, not affecting the contents). The color prints are crisp and clean. "North American Wild Flowers" contains color-printed reproductions of Mary Walcott's watercolors with her brief descriptions of each, giving information not only about the plant itself but about the circumstances of painting it. Included were plants from all parts of North American, specimens found in lawns and gardens as well as in the less accessible nooks and crannies of Canadian mountains. This work was a triumph not only for Mrs. Walcott, who was acclaimed by some as the 'Audubon' of American wild flowers, but also for the artisans of papermaking and color printing.
