Sobre este artículo
London: Robert Triphook; Nichols, and Baldwin & Cradock, 1809-1834. First edition. Leather. Good. 8" by 5.5". None. Six volumes of renowned antiquary Joseph Ritson's collected, edited songs and ballads stemming from Northern England. Six works of collected songs, ballads and poems, bound together in full calf. Published between 1809 and 1834, each work is bound with the original title page. The first four volumes present to this work are English antiquary Joseph Ritson's 1810 collected 'Northern Garlands'. Alongside assorted songs and ballads, this collection also features 'The Yorkshire Garland', 'The Northumberland Garland' and 'The North-Country Chorister' each dated 1909 and bound with their own title pages. Each of these works is present in their first edition. The fifth volume present, originally featured in 1810's 'Northern Garlands' is Joseph Ritson's 'The Bishoprick Garland'. However the title page of this volume identifies it as a later 1834 printing of the work, rather than the first edition. This work features one illustrated plate, and two further plates featuring musical notations. The final volume bound in is 'Gammer Gurton's Garland: or, the Nursery Parnassus', dated 1810. This is also the work of Joseph Ritson. This is a very scarce work, here in its first edition. To the front pastedown is the bookseller's label of 'Thomas Thorp, Bond Street', and the former owner's bookplate of 'Hugh Perkins'. In a full calf binding. Front board held by cord at tail only, and may detach without careful handling. Bookseller's label, former owner's bookplate, and notations to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Good
