Doubleday, Doran & Co, Garden City, NY, 1937. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. Book Size: Octavo (8-9"). 709 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is bright and unmarked but shaken. The binding is cracked between pp. 378-379 and pp. 682-683, exposing the webbing. Has the misprint point for a first printing: Pape for Papa on p. 430, line 20. VG hardcover in green cloth over boards with portrait decoration embossed on the front cover and bright gilt title and decordation on the spine. Tips show shelf wear with the bottom tip of the first cover worn to the board. Front and rear pastedowns have some browning from the glue along the gutter edges. This first printing copy at some point was married to an early (1937) dust jacket (front flap code 899-37). The unclipped jacket ($2.75) has some edge loss at the head and foot of the spine (not affectng any text) and a tide mark at the bottom fold edge of the front flap. It is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. Top page edges stained a dark blue-green. Quantity Available: 1.
