"From the pagan rituals and the echoes of drums in the hills, to the shouts of Caribs loading bananas in the hot coastal ports, Mr. Jackson misses none of the abounding life and incredible color of Guatemala in this book which is both a travel-narrative that the visitor may follow and an absorbing story of a fascinating near-by land for the armchair escapologist. The book is illustrated with sixty-four beautiful full-page photographs taken by the author, and an end-paper map by Charles Owens."--jacket
