Sobre este artículo

Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1893. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5.5". None. Eight volumes of the works of George Eliot. Eight volumes. Written by George Eliot, pen name of Mary Ann Evans, an English novelist, poet, journalist, translator, and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. This set includes: Scenes of Clerical Life, originally published 1857. Eliot's firs published work of fiction, a collection of three short stories. Illustrated with six plates, collated complete. Adam Bede, originally published 1859. Eliot's first novel which has remained in print ever since. A country story recognised as a significant literary work. Illustrated with seven plates, collated complete. Mill on the Floss, originally published 1860. A determined novel following the lives of Tom and Maggie Tulliver as they grow up at Dorlcote Mill. Illustrated with seven plates, collated complete. Silas Marner, originally published 1861. An outwardly simple tale of a linen weaver, noted for its strong realism and treatment of issues ranging from religion to industrialisation. Illustrated with three plates, collated complete. Romola, originally published 1863. A historical novel set in the fifteenth century seen as a study of life in the city of Florence during the Italian Renaissance. With illustrated title page, collated complete. Felix Holt, original published 1866. A social novel following the political disputes of a small English town at the time of the First Reform Act of 1832. Illustrated with seven plates, collated complete. Middlemarch, originally published 1871-72. Set in Middlemarch, a fictional English Midland town, following intersecting stories with many characters. Exploring themes of women, marriage, idealism, religion, political reform, and education. With illustrated title page, collated complete. Daniel Deronda, originally published 1876. The last of Eliot's novels and the only one set in the Victorian society of her day. A mixture of social satire and moral searching, though its sympathetic rendering of Jewish proto-Zionist ideas has made it a controversial statement piece. With illustrated title page, collated complete. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light bumping to the extremities and the odd minor mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout with light age toning to some endpapers. The odd contemporary ink inscription to the endpapers. Bookseller's label to front pastedown of Daniel Deronda. Very Good
