Very good + (light edgewear and fading in grey cloth cover with clear gilt print on cover) in good only dust jacket (heavily edgeworn especially at spine and top of back panel; some soil or sunning.) See scans. The basis for the 1944 Paramount film with Alan Ladd and Loretta Young. The author's last book. Nicely-printed in a new type face designed for the publisher, in surprisingly good shape considering wartime paper shortages. Difficult to find British first edition.. 1st British edition. Hard Cover.
