Description: Original and early photographic process for imaging artwork, etc. This printing type was created by Walter Bentley Woodbury (1834 – 1885). An inventor and pioneering of English photographer. Bentley was one of the earliest photographers in Australia and the Dutch East Indies (now part of Indonesia). He also patented numerous inventions relating to various aspects of photography, his best-known innovation being the woodburytype photomechanical process.
This photographic print is of J. M. W. Turner's watercolor and gouache over graphite with scratching-out. The painting is titled Oberwesel and was completed in 1840.
Condition: Very Good.
Some minor browning/foxing. Slight soiling to the margins
