A fascinating and comprehensive work on the diseases and medical needs of army personnel and staff, including a historiography of diseases and endemics that have afflicted the army in the past and examples of the most rampant diseases found among army personnel including fevers, itches, dysentery, coughs, and more.Written by John Pringle. The third edition of this work, bound in contemporary calf. This was the personal copy of Scottish physician and Fellow of the Royal Society, John Lewis Petit, noted by his bookplate to the front pastedown. Also including a previous owner's ink signature to the front pastedown: 'Robert Ayerst'. Front board is detached, and lacking the title page and first four pages of the preface. Pages 414 to 417 have been mis-bound between xxii and xxiii.  Signature: A4-a3, Dd8-Ee1, a4-a6, B1-Hh4ESTC Citation No. T55667 In full contemporary calf binding. Externally, shelf wear to the boards and rubbing to the spine and extremities. Front joint has failed and front board is detached. Rear joint is starting. Crack to the spine. Bookplate of John Lewis Petit and previous owner's ink signature to the front pastedown. Lacking title page and first four pages of the preface. Internally, rear hinge is starting. A few spots and bits of age-toning to the pages, otherwise pages are generally clean, especially considering the age of the work. Fair
