Sobre este artículo

London; Edinburgh: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme; A. Constable and Co, 1805. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. The author's presentation copy of this interesting look at the Highlands, the author presenting his idea that emigration would help the country's economy. The first edition.Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the recto of the front endpaper, 'Duke of Somerset, with the author's compliments'.Half-title is present. Errata slip bound after page vi. An interesting look at the Scottish Highlands; perhaps of most interest is the author's discussion on emigration to the Highlands, with the author's concerns being focused on the economic plight of the country, believing that increasing the population through emigration would help the Highlands thrive. This work was partly written by the author to defend his ideas of such colonisation, after having bought land in Prince Edward Island and settling a community of poor Scottish farmers there.Inscribed to Edward St. Maur, the 11th Duke of Somerset, a peer, astrologer, and mathematician.Written by Thomas Douglas, the 5th Earl of Selkirk. In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Only a few minor marks to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Author's inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
