Sobre este artículo

[FREEDOM OF THE PRESS] L'Estrange, Roger. THE OBSERVATOR [Number 434]. London: Printed for Joanna Brome at the Gun in S. Pauls Churchyard, Thursday, November 8, 1683. First edition. Broadsheet, uncut, as issued. Minor aging and nicks, but a fine copy. In this issue L'Estrange uses his usual slangy dialogue format, cluttered with gothic and italic and all cap type fonts for emphasis, and peppered with apostrophes commas to replicate the tone of a lively conversation, to debate the freedom of the press under Queen Elizabeth. His use of colorful slang like "twitted" and phrases like "ticklish upon that question" or "a Bear by the Tooth" makes for amusing reading. An advertisement at the end offers for sale copies of Ayres' EMBLEMATA AMATORIA, and announces that a paper for horse-dealers, `The Jockeys Intelligence' was being revived due to popular demand.
