Sobre este artículo

1890. Early days in Oceana County, MI, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data this new 214-page spiral-bound book titled: Oceana County, Michigan, USA This is a reprint of Oceana County Pioneers and Business Men of To-Day, written by L.M. Hartwick and W.H. Tuller and published at Pentwater, MI, in 1890. The tri-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The book, printed on 60# opaque paper, has 214 pages. However, because we use a 2-up format on 11" x 8.5" paper, it contains over 400 pages of the original book. Among the subjects included are: Various conjections as to why the county was named Oceana; Early history; Boundaries established; a list of settlers prior to 1855; Local Government and Society; History of the county in the pre-Civil War era; Enlistment of Indian braves in the Civil War; Trials, elections, newspapers, schools, churches, pigeons, a women's crusade, businesses, L.D. Eaton, Judge Giddings, Judge Littlejohn, the Wreck of the Lamont, the Alonzo Irons mystery including a letter from Allen Pinkerton, a short-lived dog tax, and numerous other items, events and bits of history and trivia too numerous to mention. There is a separate page Called "Gazetteer of the Village of Pentwater" listing businesses. A chapter on municipalities concerns Pentwater, Shelby, Hart, Claybanks, Weare, Benona, Golden, Elbridge, Leavitt, Walkerville, Newfield, Hesperia, Perry, Crystal, Greenwood, Grant, Otto, and Colfax. A Chapter on secret and social organizations has numerous names and sketches of men. The chapter titled Representative and Judicial also has many men mentioned, some with bios and/or drawings. In addition to the many names mentioned throughout the booklet, there are a number of biographies (often with drawings) in the final section, called "Pictorial Gallery of Pioneers and Business Men of Today".
