Illustrated with twelve uncolored lithograph plates and accompanying letterpress descriptive text. Cloth. While serving as ship's surgeon aboard the H.M.S. Rattlesnake, Huxley (1825-1895) collected and studied specimens of hydrozoas in the waters off Australia, New Guinea, and Palermo, Italy. Through careful dissections and close observation of physical relationships, Huxley succeeded in bringing more detailed order to the knowledge of these minute organisms.
