Looking at their historical context, the venues, events, and athletes. A collection of the odes of Pindar, one of the nine canonical lyric poets of Ancient Greece, his work being the best preserved of the poets.Pindar's best known poems are his odes on the celebrations and high points of the Olympic games. These odes are an important source for historians, giving a detailed explanation of what the Olympics meant to Ancient Greece's citizens and athletes. This translation remained the standard version into the nineteenth century. In a full calf binding, expertly repaired to the head of the front joint. Externally, generally smart, with a little rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Small chip to the head of the spine. Very light bumping to the extremities. Very small crack to the head of the rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the occasional spot. Very Good
