Small (3-1/2" x 6") volume bound in full dark blue morocco leather with five raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author. Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a French poet and statesman who was instrumental in the foundation of the Second Republic. He is considered to be the first French romantic poet.
