Near Fine in hardbound maroon cloth with gold title and adornments on front cover and spine. No DJ, as issued. There is slight tanning on the endpapers, otherwise, nearly all pages clean, clear, tight. Cover in remarkably good condition -- no dings or bumps, on tiny (1/32") pale mark on back. Mosaique, a collection of short stories -- Mateo Falcone, Vision de Charles XI, L'enlèvement de la redoute, Tamango, Federigo, La partie de trictrac, Le vase étrusque. Most of these tales were previously published in the Revue de Paris in 1829 and 1830. Carmen -- a novella telling the story of the unfaithful gypsy girl, later made into the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet. Colomba -- Merimee's first famous novella, about a young Corsican girl who forces her brother to commit murder for the sake of a vendetta. Lettres D'Espagne -- from his travels to Spain in 1830.
