Sobre este artículo

Los Angeles: Black Sparrow Press, 1972. First Edition. Sharp copy of Bukowski's first novel, an autobiographical work based on his years spent as a postal clerk and mail carrier in Los Angeles. He left his job there when publisher John Martin offered him $100 a week for life if he wrote for his fledgling Black Sparrow Press. A cornerstone title for any serious Bukowski collection, and scarce in the deluxe issue. Krumhansl 38c. Deluxe Issue, one of 50 numbered copies specially bound and signed by the author, this being copy no.30. Octavo (24cm); pictorial paper-covered boards and American flag-patterned cloth backstrip, with title label mounted to spine; publisher's original acetate dustjacket; [8],9-115,[5]pp, with a full-page pastel illustration of a colorful creature waving a flag that says "Pussy." Fine in a lightly rubbed, Near Fine dustjacket. Housed in a custom clamshell case.

Sinopsis

"It began as a mistake." By middle age, Henry Chinaski has lost more than twelve years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service. In a world where his three true, bitter pleasures are women, booze, and racetrack betting, he somehow drags his hangover out of bed every dawn to lug waterlogged mailbags up mud-soaked mountains, outsmart vicious guard dogs, and pray to survive the day-to-day trials of sadistic bosses and certifiable coworkers. This classic 1971 novel—the one that catapulted its author to national fame—is the perfect introduction to the grimly hysterical world of legendary writer, poet, and Dirty Old Man Charles Bukowski and his fictional alter ego, Chinaski.
