A First Edition Waugh's second novel in the 'Sword of Honor' Trilogy', 'Officers and Gentlemen' This is the second novel in Waugh's 'Sword of Honor' series. With the unclipped dustwrapper. Set during the Second World War, Waugh's novel follows the story of Guy Crouchback, and starts with his being sent back to England in disgrace. Having himself been in service during the Second World War, this series of novel loosely draw upon Waugh's own wartime experience. Evelyn Waugh was a English writer known for his novels, biographies and travel books, as well as a journalist and book reviewer. Serving in the British forces throughout the Second World War, Waugh is a writer who was exposed to a wide range of people and social classes, and this is very much reflected in his work, drawing on his own personal experience. He is perhaps best known for his work 'Brideshead Revisited', and the satire 'Decline and Fall'. In full cloth binding, held in a unclipped dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth biding, with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, in an excellent condition with minor shelfwear. Dustwrapper is sound. Chipping to the head and tail of spine. Light rubbing to the edges of wrap. Tape repairs internally to the head and tail of spine. Minor rubbing to the extremities. Offsetting to the front board. Previous owners initials on the front recto endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with creases to some pages, only the front few pages. Near Fine

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
