Sobre este artículo

RARE VIENNA-PRINTED BREVIARY IN ORANGE VELLUM
ATTRACTIVELY PRINTED IN RED & BLACK
12mo. 322pp. ("312" in error), attractively printed in red and black throughout, 2 large woodcut designs, numerous large initial letters in red, contemporary orange vellum with narrow yapp fore-edges, lacks ties at fore edges, else a very nice fresh copy. Rare.
Contemporary inscription "Monasterij Admonte" on title page.

Not located by OCLC. KVK locates only in Österreichischen Landesbibliotheken. Both OCLC and KVK locate a single copy of another edition by the same Vienna printer in 1659."From a bibliographical point of view some of the early printed Breviaries are among the rarest of literary curiosities, being merely local. The copies were not spread far, and were soon worn out by the daily use made of them. Doubtless many editions have perished without leaving a trace of their existence, while others are known by unique copies" [Wikipedia article on the Roman Breviary].
Admont Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located in the town of Admont, Austria. The Abbey, founded in 1074, early established a tradition of providing education and prospered during the Middle Ages when it possessed a productive scriptorium. A disastrous fire destroyed almost the entire monastery in 1865 in which the archives were burned but from which the library was salvaged. The economic crises of the 1930s forced the abbey to sell off many of its art treasures, and during the period of the National Socialist government the monastery was dissolved and the monks evicted. They were able to return in 1946 and the abbey today is again a thriving Benedictine community. The splendidly frescoed library hall, built in 1776 at 70 metres long, 14 metres wide and 13 metres high, is the largest monastery library in the world. It contains c. 70,000 volumes of the monastery's entire holdings of c. 200,000 volumes which include a long-established scientific collection.
