Some of the sections are: where France and England meet; one of the vanguard of the pioneers; the Ohio in the revolution; reign of the rowdy and outlaw; from Pittsburg to Lousiville in 1806; Blennerhassett Island; when the steamboat was king; the workshop of the world; index; 5 pages after the fold out map, each one with details of another river/locale, published by Putnam's. Overweight; 5#. ; Map & B&W Illustrations; 6 3/4 x 9 3/4 x 2 /34; xiv, 378+ pages; Hardcover has shelf wear, rubbing, bumping, fading on spine, sunning on sides of text block, slight fraying on corners, dimmed gilt on top edge; tissue at frontispiece is pulled away from spine by 1", weakening gutters; fold out map has creasing in center of bottom edge and some sunning at top----neither flaw reaches into the map itself. .
