Faber & Faber,, [1938]. 8vo., First Edition, with title-vignette by Reynolds Stone; handsomely bound in full dark green crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, original backstrip mounted on new leaf at front, custom-made-slip-case, an elegant copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. This 'daisy of a book' - the first volume of the factual autobiographical trilogy - was Sassoon's personal favourite of all his prose works. It is dedicated to Max Beerbohm who materially assisted Sassoon by punctuating the text at proof stage. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Keynes, A42a.
