A very smart copy of the first volume only of Charles Knight's beautifully illustrated study of the antiquities and history of England, illustrated throughout with chromolithograph plates. Illustrated with a chromolithographic frontispiece, and seventeen further chromolithographic plates, and with numerous vignette illustrations throughout. Collated, complete.Charles Knight provides an extensive history of England, looking at the development of the country from the time before the conquest up to the eighteenth century. Knight also looks at the progress of society for the century preceding the Victorian era.The first volume of a two volume work, which was first published in 1845.Undated; dated circa 1860 via Jisc, due to pagination and number of plates. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail and board perimeters, with a touch of discolouration to board perimeters. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd spot. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
