Original publisher's navy cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt, printed paper dustwrapper. Minor shelf-wear, dustwrapper a trifle creased and marked, small hole to lower panel, spine panel sunned. Occasional light spotting. The first edition of an authoritative, and profusely illustrated, history of sailing-ship ornamentation by Leonard George Carr Laughton (1871-1955), a driving force behind the foundation of the Society for Nautical Research and sometime editor of The Mariner’s Mirror. . Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
