A first edition of this humorous story by Barry Pain, heavily illustrated with entertaining cartoons by Tom Browne. A first edition of this light story by Barry Pain. A regular contributor to the weekly satiric magazine Punch, Barry Pain was an Enligh journalist, poet, and humourist. This story is accompanied by cartoons by popular Victorian illustrator Tom Browne. Prior owner's calligraphic ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. The inscription reads, 'To Minnie, with Love from A. 5th May 1903'. With a blind stamp from W. H. Smith to the front endpaper. In the publisher's original red pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with some marginal wear to the extremities. The cloth is a little discoloured. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
