Sobre este artículo
One Corpse Too Many A Mediaeval Whodunnit Second Brother Cadfael Chronicle by Ellis Peters (pseudonym of Edith Pargeter and author of A Morbid Taste for Bones, Monk's Hood, Saint Peter's Fair, etc.) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing MacMillan UK 1979. £4.50 original cover price. A very nice copy which is NOT x-lib, NOT bc ed.
Near Fine+ in Fine Dust Jacket. A really nice copy. The pages are very clean, the corners of the boards are for the most part straight with just a hint of tenderness to the lower right-hand corner, and a bit of shelf-wear to the bottom edge of the front board and at the spine. The dust jacket is near perfect, NO tears, only a hint of toning to the back.
NOTE on condition: Most copies of these books are
x-library copies. While I wouldn't characterize first edition copies as
rare, they seem to be relatively uncommon in near fine or better
condition. Many listings of the early Cadfael books in first editions
are often priced at a premium and they're x-library copies which would
grade in the dreaded "good" category which means they're not that good.
NOTE about the author: Edith Pargeter was a prolific novelist who wrote primarily (but not exclusively) under the pseudonym of Ellis Peters. She had been writing and publishing books for over 40 years when the first Brother Cadfael novel originally appeared in 1977. With the Brother Cadfael series, Peters/Pargeter practically invented the medieval murder mystery.
NOTE on editions of Brother Cadfael: The first 13 books (of a total of 21) of the Brother Cadfael series were originally published by MacMillan UK and Morrow US, and the final books (14 to 21) were published by Headline UK and Mysterious Press US. However, some of the books originally released by MacMillan were reprinted in new editions by the same publisher starting about a decade or so after the first book, A Morbid Taste for Bones, was originally released. Some sellers list these books with stock images which appear to be the same as the true first editions but in fact they have completely different dust jacket art. The true first UK editions printed by MacMillan should all have dust jacket art which encompasses the entire front and partial red spines and "M" on the bottom through Book 13. I found out the hard way that the later MacMillan editions are often listed with the wrong images. The later editions show a smaller figure of a medieval scribe within a large border. Also, there are a lot of x-library copies of these books available. And to further the confusion, BCA in the UK and BC in the US also issued these books.
NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.
ALSO: The pictures are of the actual item for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.)
Sinopsis
One Corpse Too Many is a medieval mystery novel set in the summer of 1138 by Ellis Peters, first published in 1979. It was adapted for television in 1994 by Central for ITV. Although it was the first novel in the Brother Cadfael series to be written, it was the second to be published, as the events of A Morbid Taste for Bones take place first, chronologically.
