Prelims plus 234pp. In brown cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine (boards are strong, square and clean, just a little rubbed on edges and rounded on corners and spine tips). Top text block edge dusty, a hint of faint, occasional spotting on fore-edge. Internally, a small portion of the front free endpaper has been clipped out, and there is a price written in pen opposite, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (a little bumped on edges, a little rubbed on folds, lightly chapped on part of upper edge on verso). A comedy thriller about three confidence tricksters. Leonard Cyril Deighton is a British author whose works include cookery books, history and military history, but he is best known for his spy novels, including the series featuring the unnamed Harry Palmer. Sinopsis
Only When I Larf is a late 1960s British comic thriller describing the activities of a team of three fictional confidence tricksters led by Silas Lowther (late 40s), his girlfriend Liz Mason (late 20s) and wannabe apprentice and Liz-worshipper Bob (early 20s). The novel dates from Len Deighton's experimental period after the three Harry Palmer books and was published in 1968 by Michael Joseph and in paperback by Sphere. It is currently (2007) out of print.
