The extremely scarce Portugese edition of Atlas der Geburtshülflicher Abbildungen, the important work of obstetrical plates by Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch, first published the previous year. This was the first such obstetrical work published in Portuguese. In Very Good Condition: corners of boards are rubbed; reback, as described; browning and foxing to both text and plates, heavy at times; otherwise clean and tight.

A collection of mid 17th century surgical woodcuts that appear in an early edition of The Works of that Famous Chirurgion Ambrose Pare Translated out of Latine and Compared with the French by Th[omas] Johnson (ESTC lists 4 editions printed between 1634 and 1678). Rebacked with new paper label on spine. [82] p.p. Includes 105 surgical woodcuts that show a variety of tools for sealing the wounds, scraping and extracting teeth; drawing out bullets; knives and saws used for dismemberment and amputation; treatment for and methods of setting fractures and dislocated shoulders and elbows, as well as woodcuts of facial prosthetics for the eyes and nose, and artificial limbs for a hand made with iron. Engraved vignette on title pages (illustrating the event narrated in the text), engraved portrait of Carlo Emmanuele, two engraved initials with figures of cherubs. In contemporary vellum over boards, red leather label on spine. Pages lightly toned, with some rather negligible stains. Good margins. Bima, Catalogo ragionato, in "La Stampa Reale di Torino" (2003), p. 91; Wellcome V, 148; Blake NLM 426.. This work, which describes the experiences of two sisters, their brother's wife, and her five-year-old child trapped in a ruined stable by an avalanche for 37 days, is now considered a pioneering study in post-traumatic stress disorder.
