Sobre este artículo

London: Chatto & Windus, 1922. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. An uncommon first edition novel about Eton by Shane Leslie, inscribed by the author to a fellow Etonian, Viscount Tredegar. The first edition of this uncommon work. Author's presentation copy, 'To my brother of Cape and Sword - Shane Leslie in the first year of the pontificate of the Holiness of Pius XI'. His poem 'Rose of England: Rosa Mystica' loosely inserted, noted 'love from' by Shane to the tail.Bookplate of Evan Morgan, 2nd Viscount Tredegar to the front paste down. Morgan went Eton, and was responsible for monitoring carrier pigeons in World War Two. However he let information slip and was court martialed, though not sent to jail. He was inspiration for Aldous Huxley and Ronald Firbank as characters in their novels.A striking roman a clef about life and contemporaries at Eton, based on the author's own experiences.Shane Leslie was a prominent diplomat and writer, and a first cousin of Winston Churchill. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some marks to the boards and spine. Light rubbing to the spine. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Bookplate and author's inscription to the front paste down. Spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good
