New York: Harper & Brothers, 1909. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering. 324pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 7 full-page called-for plates. Very good. While tight and internally bright and sharp, the mildly edgeworn binding with spine gilt rather rubbed does feature a homely if quite small stain at upper right of front board; light ownership name on front pastedown; rear flyleaf an expert period replacement. A tight, decent first edition of these sixteen short stories. Of the seven lovely plates, one is by James Montgomery Flagg and another by Gordon Grant.
