Sobre este artículo
Paris: Hieronymum Drovart, 1610 First edition of a collection of posthumous works by Joseph Scaliger, including seventeen short essays on linguistic and historical subjects (Aeschylus, Euripides, and Caesar) and poems and letters. The majority of the works are in Latin while three are in French. . Contemporary stiff vellum with yapp edges, spine lettered in manuscript. Quarto. Binding extremities slightly toned with a few small stains. Lacks front flyleaf. Minor foxing, intermittent light toning. A few small holes in leaves, occasionally touching text, but not affecting legibility. Contemporary ink corrections to pagination on a few leaves. A very good copy. Joseph Justus Scaliger (1540-1609) was a French religious leader and scholar, known for expanding the area of classical history from Greek and Ancient Roman history to include Persian, Babylonian, Jewish, and ancient Egyptian history. He published several academic works, including De emendatione temporum (1558), a reconstruction of Eusebius's Chronicon, a significant work in the area of ancient chronology, which he printed in his Thesaurus Temporum (1606). Throughout the course of his life, Scaliger had made many enemies, including the Jesuits, as a result of having refuted some of the historical documents that they had relied upon. His claim of Veronese ancestry was publically attacked by Gasper Scioppius and published Scaliger Hypobolimaeus (1601), debunking his claim to be a La Scala descendant. This work damaged Scaliger's reputation permanently. The present work includes Diatriba de Decimis in lege Dei, De Thesi quadam Chronologia, Iudicium, Animadversiones in Cyclopem Euripidis, and Poemata quædam & Epigrammata antehac non edita

Our office is located in Los Angeles on West Third Street, between the Beverly Center and Farmer's Market. Though we gave up an open shop after more than thirty years, we welcome serious customers and dealers. We are normally open from 10 to 6 Monday through Saturday. Since some of our less expensive books are located in a temperature-controlled storage area offsite, you may want to call ahead of time to insure that the book you want to see will be available. We feature a stock strong in literature, history, Western philosophy, women's studies, education, history of science and fine printing and artists' books. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. We have books from the 15th to the 20th century in all prices ranges. We do appraisals for income tax and insurance purposes. We purchase individual books and libraries. Proprietor: Carol Sandberg
