Sobre este artículo
(Johannesburg: Macmillan South Africa, 1981) 0869540939. Folio (350 x 257 mm); lettered in gilt on spine; laminated pictorial dustwrapper; decorative endpapers; pp. ix + (iii) + 159, incl. index; beautiful full-colour plates; line drawings. Dustwrapper very slightly edgeworn and a bit foxed to reverse side; bumps to head and tail of spine; earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper; occasional light fox spot. Very good condition. "Part I contains a review of the African orchids south of the Sahara, including descriptions of the kinds of plants and flowers, their structure and habits, and the first complete list of the currently recognised genera. In Part II fifty selected species are illustrated by Esmé Hennessy's detailed paintings in full colour, while Joyce Stewart's text describes them botanically and discusses their origins, habitat and introduction to cultivation. Chosen to portray some of the diversity of form, colour, shape and size that is found among the African orchids, these species present a display of attractive, unusual and intriguing plants. The exquisite paintings were taken from life and are mostly reproduced life-size." .
