An unspecified but substantially preproduction draft of Hecht's adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the Great War. It was the novel's second screen adaptation to reach production. This draft precedes John Huston's coming on board as director (and of course his departure, at which point Charles Vidor took over). This draft is nearly 20 leaves longer than several subsequent drafts. Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones starred.

Preceded by a minute handful of sets of actual uncorrected page proofs, a wholly different animal than this state, although this format is sometimes confused with the other.

3RD PRINTING SIGNED BY LOIS and dated 1994 (the year after publication). Also briefly inscribed as shown. An attractive copy in VG condition: Inside, the text looks and feels unread. Outside, the red cloth hardcover boards still have sharp (but soft) corners and minimal wear along the edges. There is a spot on the front cover and the book has a mild lean. Dust Jacket: no medal sticker present, but wear along edges and corners; looks quite appealing with a new mylar cover. Expedited shipping is welcome; signed by author.

Olive green cloth with gilt titles to the spine, Sunned at the backstrip and along the edges of the covers, lightly toned block. Pushed at the tail but the corners are sharp and the book fairly tight and square. Free from owner names etc, a nice clean copy, VG. The dustjacket is price-clipped and rubbed at the corners. Slightly colour-faded at spine, a few little scrapes to the laminate along the top edge. VG dustjacket.

Headline, 2005. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. A really Fine, fresh, clean copy of the First UK edition. Dustjacket unclipped and in Fine shape. SIGNED by Neil Gaiman at the Dedication (for the seller in person), where he has underlined the line of printed text which reads "This one's for you" and signed below. A nice touch.

New York: Modern Library. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1969. First Thus. Hardcover. First Modern Library Edition, September 1969 [stated]. SIGNED full page inscription on front end page by film maker Hall Bartlett and dated February 25th 1972. Inscription states "Dear Diane and Mike. This is my next film, the one with Tony Quinn", that it took three years of fighting to get the movie rights and asking Diane and Mike for collaboration on the film. The film was released in 1978 staring Anthony Quinn and titled the same as the book. The movie was nominated for both a Golden Globe and at the Moscow International Film Festival in 1979 [IMDB and Golden Globes]. The late Hall Bartlett (1912-1993) started his film production company in 1952 and made other movies with actors Bob Hope [The Paleface - 1948], Robert Stack, Joan Crawford [The Caretakers - 1963] and Sidney Poitier [All the Young Men -1960].
