Sobre este artículo
1952. Ephemera. Near fine. An attractive pen-and-ink drawing of a woman used to illustrate a cult Golden Age science fiction pulp novel.
The artwork was published on page 12 of the Spring 1952 issue of Fantastic Story Magazine. The story it appeared in was a reprint of Weinbaum's cult-classic story "Dawn of Flame", which was first published posthumously in 1936 by the Milwaukee Fictioneers, and then as part of Weinbaum's Black Flame, published in 1948 by the Fantasy Press. The artist drew different illustrations for that book.
The image is roughly 4-1/2 by 7 inches on a roughly 7-1/4 by 11 inch sheet of cream-colored cardstock.
A. J. Donnell (1905-1991) was one of the four founders of the Fantasy Press, and he is best-known for his book cover illustrations done for the firm. The image is fine; there's a bit of grubbiness to the margins from handling and a penciled ID number at the top right corner. The back (verso) has a number of pencil and ink notations, including the title of the story and the pulp in which it appeared. These have been trimmed to center the image on the remaining paper. The artwork is not signed.
