Sobre este artículo

Marine photo album recording his true experiences in the Pacific at the end of the 2nd World war. Album includes 30 postcards and 93 photos, many from his time serving in the Pacific. Album is 10.5"x13.25". Loosely tied cardboard boards with forty black pages, many filled with photos and postcards. Frontcover has decoration of globe, eagle, and the motto of the Marine Corps, "semper fidelis," or "always loyal" in Latin. Photos from the Marine's time at base, with other marines, airplanes, and various places in the Pacific during the war. Some of the most interesting ones are of local life in the Pacific, including stray dogs, monkeys, local women, and boats on the river. Many of the postcards have illustrated views of marine bases and soldiers in action. Postcards are written to the marine's family in Georgia. Negatives, news articles, documents and a ribbon are laid in. Photo sizes 2.5"x3.5" and 3"x4."

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 lost all but one of its twelve F4F-3s during the attack on Pearl Harbor and had to slowly rebuild. In May 1942, the squadron was deployed to the South Pacific and adopted the nickname "Avengers." They also notably liberated the Philippines from Japanese control in 1944 and 1945. After the war, the squadron participated in the occupation of China. Good condition, pages no longer connected to tie, some tears to pages, some pages appear to have photos missing, but may be the loose postcards in the collection. Overall, a unique look at a Marine's experiences during World War II.
