Sobre este artículo

Faber and Faber, London, first edition, 1965. Cloth, 8vo, 22 cm,. 96 pp, ills. From the foreword: "Books on manuscripts ... show wide dissimilarity in use of terms for the same ornament, and often fail to identify a familiar motif in one of its exquisite disguises. The Glossary grew out of the need to find a common language for manuscript ornament, its single purpose being to fix the salient characteristic of a known form through illustration, and to define it in universally acceptable terms. And since, to describe properly the decorated page, not only must ornament be named, but its quality suggested, its innate attitude or posture revealed, and terms found which will place it on the page or within other ornamental features on the page, a vocabulary for these aspects of ornament has been culled, very often from fields quite remote from iconography. Top edge slightly duststained, otherwise Good.

Sobre Wykeham Books

We specialize chiefly in "books about books", the emphasis being on historical aspects of book collecting, production and distribution. A particular speciality is in bibliographies, of all subjects of interest to collectors, dealers and scholars, with several thousand bibliography titles in stock. Other strengths include extensive holdings of auction catalogues for book sales and a good selction of reference material on and facsimiles of illuminated manuscripts. We also have a special interest in rare material by or about Rudyard Kipling.
