Mercure De France. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1925. 10th Edition. Hardcover. Original yellow paper covers have been rebound, with the original covers left intact and new endpapers added on both sides. Boards are half leather with five raised bands on spine and half marbled boards . This is an old binding, probably contemporary with the 1925 publication date. 3" scrape mark on front cover, bookplate of former owner on pastedown, yellowed pages. Pages unevenly cut. Wear to extremities of cover with bottom inch of backstrip just beginning to separate from front cover. . Endpapers are also marbled, frontispiece is drawing of Wilde in repose with tissue protector. Gide's tribute to Oscar Wilde, with whom he had a long relationship. Book is in French. Tight, a beautiful copy in spite of minor defects. Former owner was Paul P. Demidoff, possibly the son of the second Prince of San Donato (1839-1885) of the same name, since his bookplate has a seal that has a distinctively royal look to it. I have not been able to verify this hypothesis. . 12mo 7" - 7½" tall. 75 pages. I1 .
