London: Chapman and Hall, 1865. First edition. Very Good. 2 volumes bound as one, apparently from original parts. 22 cm; xii, 320, viii, 310 pages, and 40 full page plates by Marcus Stone. Bound in polished half calf over marbled paper boards. Marbled edges. Black leather title label. Edges of binding rubbed, especially the bottom edge. Scattered blemishes on some plates and some text pages, but generally clean. Penciled note on front pastedown "first edition bound up from the parts.
Sinopsis
Our Mutual Friend (written in the years 1864–65) is the last novel completed by Charles Dickens and is in many ways one of his most sophisticated works, combining deep psychological insight with rich social analysis. At one level it centres on, in the words of critic J. Hillis Miller, "money, money, money, and what money can make of life" but in a deeper sense it's also about 'human values'.
