Sobre este artículo

Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1955. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Inscribed on the front free endpaper in red ink: "Mary Lund is one of the most cheerful persons I've ever met. Bernie Frank." Uncommon signed, and uncommon in general.  At the time of the writing of this book, Frank was an Assistant Chief of the US Forest Service and here he "tells us what a treasure house these forest are and how they are repeatedly endangered by unthinking citizens and by special interests." An insiders view of the value and management of National forests, and the risks to them. With a two-page foreword by William O. Douglas and a notable 38-page appendix "National Forest Resources" that details every National Forest as it stood in 1955, organized by state and giving info about acreage, scenery, water, special features, and more. Very good with some light foxing/browning to endpapers that mirror the flaps, otherwise near fine. In a very good dust jacket with atmospheric light soiling and rubbing and one tear to back corner at flap. And a final neat attribute: We think Mt. St. Helens is depicted on the jacket, decades before it blew its top, and Douglas refers to climbing Mt. St. Helens in the opening line of his foreword.

Sobre Rural Hours

Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
