Sobre este artículo
West Kingston, Rhode Island: Donald M. Grant. , 1975.. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine in Dust Jacket. Octavo, original dark blue cloth lettered in gilt on spine panel. Edited and with a Critical Biography by Sam Moskowitz. Illustrated by Stephen Fabian. 304 pp., frontispiece, chapter vignettes, and seven full-page black & white plates by Fabian (included in the pagination), plus colour dust wrapper artwork by Hannes Bok. 2,100 copies printed, but this is a Very Special Copy, Inscribed by the Editor in blue ink on the front free endpaper "Number 14 of 14 copies for special distribution signed by the editor / Sam Moskowitz". A near fine copy in like dust wrapper, very slightly scuffed. The dust jacket is fragile and very prone to rubbing and fading; this is a very nice example.
¶ Collects seven previously uncollected short stories by Hodgson, one of the all-time great masters of supernatural horror: 'A Tropical Horror'; 'Out of the Storm'; 'The Finding of the Graiken'; 'Eloi Eloi Lama Sabachtani'; 'The Terror of the Water-Tank'; 'The Albatross'; and 'The Haunting of the Lady Shannon'. The excellent biographical study by Moskowitz is almost 118 pages long. There was no 'Special Edition' of this book per se; but this copy came from the estate of the indomitable George Locke, proprietor of Ferret Fantasy and voracious science fiction and fantasy collector, and the story behind this copy is recorded in Locke's A SPECTRUM OF FANTASY (1980), page 115: "About 1976, Sam Moskowitz visited Britain, and we met at a science fiction convention. At that time, as distributor for Donald M. Grant, we had some 14 copies of 'Out of the Storm' in stock, and when Sam agreed to sign them, I thought it would be a good idea to have him write the above inscription on the fly-leaf of each, numbering the copies from 1 to 14. I emphasise that these copies do not in my opinion constitute a limited edition of the book (although I suspect that in years to come they will probably be catalogued as such), but at least they do have the virtue of identifying the number so signed."
