A fascinating set of works that offers a insight into the natural world, edited by the notable naturalist Arthur Thomson. Rebound with several front covers from the original publications to the rear of each volume. Undated, dated using Copac. With the previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume that reads 'St. Augustine's Abbey School Ramsgate. The Mackenzie Prize for General Knowledge Awarded to Robert Warren-Codrington'. This work has been bound in Scotch deerskin which has been dyed for Messrs. Sangorski and Sutcliffe of Poland Street London. This has been explained in a an additional slip bound in to the reverse of the front endpaper.
