The Overlord Embroidery was commissioned in 1968 by Lord Dulverton as a tribute to, and a permanent memorial and record of the effort by the Allies to liberate Europe during the 1939-45 war..... ""The Overlord Embroidery which is unique, depicts the Allied invasion of Normandy of 6th June, 1944. It traces the planning and historical detail of Operation Overlord from Britain's darkest hour in 1940 through to victory in the Battle of Normandy in August 1944.... ""6th June, 1944 is a date which will always be remembered the world over, especially by Nations who uphold the principles of Liberty and Democracy."" This 24 page 11 3/4"" wide x 8 1/4""tall stapled booklet is in very good condition. Shows shelf & edge wear, mellow age toning to the papers, and light smudges but no rips or tears. The booklet depicts the 34 panels comprising ""The Overlord Embroidery"" with brief descriptions of events shown. Concludes with Pages containing the follwoing information: British and Canadian Initial Assault Personnel 6th June 1944, Chart of the Command of the Allied Expeditionary Force, Chart of the German Command in the West, and the last page: statistics on ""The Scale and Cost of the Invasion"" including number of troops involived in the mission and casualties. Inside back cover notes, ""The Overlord Embroidery is on public display at the Whitbread's Brewery in Chiswell Street, in the City of London. Also laid in is a large colored postcard of one of the panels of the Embroidery.
