This version was first published in Japanese, 1969. Deftly told Makoto Oishe, magically illustrated by Ryohei Yanagihara (1931 -), and skillfully translated to English by Ann Brannen in 1971. Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice (French: L'apprenti sorcier), is a symphonic poem subtitled "Scherzo after a ballad by Goethe" as it was based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 1797 poem of the same title. Experiences of young sorcerer's apprentice Arthur. Impatient w/endless manual duties & no schooling in the yearned for magic arts of turning flowers into lovely girls and/or worms into ponies in sight, Arthur decides to memorize secretly heard chantings of his master, and takes off on his own! He orders a broom to stand up and draw water, but, can't have it stop!!! Fine copy, though Ex-Lib.
