Collated, complete.The collected works of Virgil, printed in the original Latin, and with additional notes from Charles de la Rue, known as one of the great orators of the Society of Jesus in seventeenth century France.Virgil is one of the best remembered Ancient Roman poets, active during the Augustan period. Across his career he composed three of the most famous poems in the canon of Latin literature, 'Eclogues', 'Georgics', and 'Aeneid'. ESTC Citation No. T170291 With the stamp of the Pax St. Augustine's Abbey Library Ramsgate to the recto of the frontispiece, their bookplate to the front pastedown, and a handwritten shelf number to the spine.Virgil's works have had a great and far-reaching influence on Western literature, with his 'Aeneid' being considered the national epic of Ancient Rome. In a full calf binding. Significant rubbing to back strip and board perimeters. Ink library number to spine. Joints starting, with rear board firmly held, and front board held by one cord only. Library bookplate to front pastedown. Lacking front and rear free endpapers. Frontispiece detached to head, and only tenderly held to the tail, with a stamp to the recto. Loss towards tail of fore edge of frontispiece. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright. Worming to tail of front pastedown and a number of early leaves, not affecting text. Good Only

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
