Sobre este artículo

Used; Like New/Used; Like New. Autograph note from the great Spanish composer, conductor, and cellist, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, boldly signed "Pablo Casals to Pablo Picasso" and inscribed in Spanish "With my greetings, admiration and best wishes" in blue ink to a loose leaf.  In fine condition.  10.5 x 8 inches (26.5 x 20.5 cm.). Provenance: From the Estate of Richard de Grab,  Czech photographer known especially for his many fine portraits of performing artists. We have been unable to find any information about the circumstances of the present inscription linking the two artists, Picasso and Casals, both of whom were deeply committed to advocating for peace and humanitarianism. Casals definitely did not appreciate some of the art of the Picasso.  Kirk (p. 548) quotes from an interview of Casals in Musical America:  "Do not tell me that anyone can understand Picasso when he paints a woman with five noses protruding from different parts of her body.  How can anyone get anything out of such nonsense?  It is not human!"
Throughout his career, postwar contemporary artist and photographer Richard de Grab produced many portraits of renowned artists, with whom he often befriended, including Cocteau, Picasso, Miro, Prévert, Hartung, Soulage, and Poliakoff. Salvador Dali, another subject and friend to de Grab, affectionately nicknamed him "The Turtle ", with several drawings dedicated to him over the years with inscriptions reading, "Bonjor Tortue", and "Pour la Tortue".

As members of PADA, ABAA and ILAB, we guarantee that all items we sell are authentic and as represented and described. But our guarantee is more than that: as lovers and purveyors of rare books and documents that speak to us across time, this is a fundamental value of our business. All purchases made from Schubertiade Music & Arts LLC (through the website, by phone or email, or through any other sales outlet) constitute the purchaser's consent to these terms.
