Sobre este artículo
Los Angeles: Rafu Shinposha / Los Angeles Japanese Daily News, 1933. First Edition. Trade paperback. Near fine. An example of kokumin gaiko, or people's diplomacy, in support of the Japanese Army's occupation of China. Dodo was the editor of Rafu Shimpo, the largest Japanese daily in Los Angeles, and according to newspaper accounts at the time, a frequent lecturer in support of Japan's activities in China. This book, published for a Japanese American audience, justifies the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and Shanghai as a necessary response to Chinese provocations (the Mukden Incident). It also seems aimed at providing Japanese Americans information for discussions with White Americans. Each chapter, in Japanese, is followed by an extensive bibliography of sources and references, mostly in English.
The book is titled in Japanese at the front and in English at the back. The Japanese subtitle, not included as part of the English language title in the book, translates as "A Study of Far Eastern Perceptions, Public Opinion, Politics, Economy, and Culture."
For more information on kokumin gaiko see Eiichiro Azuma's Between Two Empires, p. 171 ff.
vi, 122 pages.
OCLC: 35555090 (Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, LC). First edition (first printing). A near fine copy in printed wrappers.
