Front map end papers are tanned, rear are as new. 2 sections of black and white photos are crisp and clean. 318 indexed pages. 8.75x5.75x1.5". Visits to Pacific Islands where some of the great battles of WWII were fought to see how they've fared in the 25 years after the war ended. Battles are reviewed to see what caused current issues (1970). Those that still have military bases often in the worst shape, filled with jerry-built structures and full of hustlers and whores catering to the military. Those without have often lapsed into backwaters occasionally visited by tourists. In most the natives survive in poverty, stripped of dignity, jobless or exploited, and still subjected to nineteenth century style missionary zeal. Places visited: Pearl Harbor, Wake Island, Hong Kong, Manila, Bataan, Corregidor, Leyte, Midway, Guadalcanal, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Sydney, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, Guam, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, Formosa, Okinawa, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
